History of a Dream
It was the winter of 1972. I was a 12 year old kid who loved listening to the radio and loved music. I'll never forget one evening I got a call from my best friend Kirk. It was about 9:55 pm, and he said, "hey man, turn on the radio." I reached over my bed to my homemade, custom built into the wall radio / record player, turned on a Chicago station and turned off the lights. Within a few minutes, the news ended and an eerie voice floated over the airwaves...
"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men...the Shadow knows."
From that moment on, I was hooked!
For the last 35 years, Old Time Radio has been a passion of mine. At one point, I had almost 5000 episodes in my library in addition to numerous autographed tapes, books and other memorabilia from the golden age of radio. Sadly, everything was lost in the Rockford, IL flood on September 4th, 2006. I have been aggressively rebuilding since then and am happy to say it's coming along well. Of course, I will never be able to replace my cover of "The Six Shooter" (which was personally autographed by Jimmy Stewart shortly before his death in 1997) or all of the other items that meant so much to me, but life does indeed go on and we'll just keep smiling.
So, on to a very exciting part of my life...
In January of 2005, WGSL Radio 91.1 FM in Rockford, IL asked me to host their weekly Old Time Radio Program. In December 2007, I completed my 3rd year as host and have aired 144 episodes. This program can be heard every Saturday evening (except for the month of December) at 7:00 PM CST. We're also on the Web at www.Radio91.com.
I usually welcome everyone to the program and invite them to "head back in time" with us. After that, I provide some information about the program and then we sit back and enjoy a 30 minute (or so) program. Occasionally, I'll provide some trivia and attempt to generate some phone calls. We usually run theme months such as "Comedy Month", "Detective Month" and so forth. We always put out a call for requests and usually run one or two "all request" months per year.
In the near future, I will post our Old Time Radio listening broadcast schedule here on this web site, and you are always welcome to go to our "Request an Estimate" page and send me a note.
Thanks and please tune in and E N J O Y . . . . . . . .
